Corsa all’anello

The Corsa all’Anello di Narni is a historical re-enactment dedicated to the patron saint Giovenale, the first bishop of the city. In the two weeks preceding the second Sunday of May, returning to the distant 1371.

The three districts competing in the horse race for the silver ring are Mezule (in black and white colours), Fraporta (red and blue) and Santa Maria (with the orange and purple banner)

Each district has its own stable, where horses and riders train, its own tailor’s shop for the creation of clothes for the great procession and for the representations of historical groups – archers, dancers, flag-wavers, musicians and swordsmen who throughout the party perform in the streets and squares. They also have typical taverns where the famous Umbrian food and wine tradition meets fun.

Now we come to the real race: the equestrian race is the most exciting moment of the festival and represents the contest of the coveted Silver Ring between the three third districts. The adrenaline, the speed, the precision, the technique, the direct confrontation make the race one of a kind. The evening before the race takes place the Great Historical Parade, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy with more than a thousand participants.

In addition to the Corsa all’Anello and its Historical Parade, another hundred events take place during the festival: shows of artistic and cultural groups, live exhibitions, medieval markets, flag-wavers shows…  they are all part of the magic. A magic that cannot be explained but only lived so… come to Narni, come to the Corsa all’Anello!
