Astiludio 8th of June

Astiludio is a national flag throwing competition held in Volterra where the winner receives the Bravio, a plate decorated by local artists. At 3.15 pm the bells of the contrade-districts begin to ring and the four processions coming from their respective city gates make their way to the square and challenge each other in the completion.

The Astiludio re-enacts the 1406 festivities for the defeat of Pisa by Florence, then allied with Volterra.
